Consular Identification


To renew your Consular ID, the requirements are:

Fill out the application available at the Consulate.
Submit your original Consular ID
Present a residence certificate, such as Services bill on your name; otherwise, a notarized letter
     that certifies your place of residence
Payment of Consular Fee

In order to obtain a Consular ID for the first time, the requirements are:
Fill out the application available at the Consulate.
Original Birth Certificate and 2 photocopies of the complete document. 
One Original unexpired identification and two copies. This ID must be issued and stamped by an official Mexican authority and contain a photograph of its holder (i.e., National Militar Service Carnet (Military "Cartilla") SMN, Consular ID, certificate of completion of studies, basic education school grade sheet, voter's card by the IFE, Mexican driver's license, Certificate of non-criminal record)
Also acceptable are Photo Identifications issued by the Federal Government (i.e., United States Passport, Permanent Resident Card -"green card", work permit) or by an accredited institution in the States of New York, New Jersey or Connecticut (i.e., driver's license, school ID, letter from the school). If you obtained a passport, voter's card or naturalization certificate from the United States or another country before March 1998, you will need to obtain a Declaration of Mexican Citizenship.

Keep photocopies of your Consular ID in your records. It will ease future documentation processes
